Eventually, every frontier fades.
After the risk-takers have found new, better ways of doing things, it's safe for the more risk-averse people to move in and crowd them out.
By all means, this can provide stability. But risk-averse people, increasingly insulated from reality, have a tendency to create fake complexity.
Before long, a frontier can turn into a tangled web of rent-seeking.
